Just when the caterpillar thought its life was over, it became a butterfly.
— Zhuangzi

When a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, it doesn’t simply grow wings. Once wrapped safe in its cocoon it dissolves into a gooey mush. From the goo imaginal cells emerge, the building blocks of the butterfly. Slowly and gently these cells connect to and build on each other, until the new life is fully formed. It is now able to emerge into the bright, beautiful world, unrecognizable from its former self.

Life is hard, and the strongest among us can be turned into mush. Sometimes it happens all at once through trauma, sometimes slowly by erosive thoughts and beliefs. Some people are able to pretend they’re still okay, becoming hard and brittle to protect their soft insides. Others have no protective outer layers and live as an exposed mess just trying to get through the day.

As a counselor I provide a cocoon for my clients, a safe space where they can fully allow the mush to do its job. I help locate the imaginal cells (so called because they seem imaginary at first) inside you, bringing forward the strength and wisdom to grow through your unique challenges.

I specialize in the following areas:

I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. I am a Registered Associate Counselor, license #R9203. I specialized in Person-Centered Therapy, Trauma Recovery, Addiction, and mood disorders including Depression and Anxiety during my coursework. I took additional courses on Motivational Interviewing and Restoration Therapy during my Internship.

I am currently enrolled in the Somatic Experiencing certification program. Previous to my Master’s I was a Somatic Re-Education Therapist, a bodywork technique that helps release trauma from the nervous system that is similar to Somatic Experiencing. From 2009 – 2016 I trained Mindfulness intensively under a spiritual teacher, which gave me many tools for creating a wholly new experience of life.

I learned a long time ago that insight without kindness can do more harm than good. For that reason, I lean in with acceptance, safety, and unconditional positive regard for my clients. Whatever you are going through there is a way through, and we will figure it out together.
